Haast Series – South Island Kokako

Acrylic on 50cm Panel Board | High Gloss Finish

$450 NZD Each – Original Artwork

The South Island Kokako, with its haunting blue-grey plumage and soulful song, takes center stage in the Haast Series. Known for its melodic calls and elusive presence, the Kokako is an iconic native bird of Aotearoa, symbolizing the harmony and resilience of our forests.

Inspired by my autumn 2024 journey through the Haast Pass and South Island wilderness, this painting captures the quiet beauty and solitude of Te Waipounamu. Amid snow-draped mountains and untouched valleys, the Kokako embodies the spirit of Aotearoa’s remote landscapes, celebrating the deep connection between humans, birds, and nature.

Each piece in the Haast Series is a tribute to the mana of New Zealand’s native birds, reflecting their role in our environment and cultural heritage. This original acrylic painting is ideal for collectors and lovers of South Island wildlife and landscapes.
