The Huia, once revered in Aotearoa as a symbol of nobility, leadership, and tapu, graces the Haast Series with its striking presence. Known for its distinctive black feathers with white tail tips, the Huia is celebrated in Māori tradition and continues to inspire connection to our natural heritage.

Inspired by my autumn 2024 journey through the South Island, the Haast Series captures the remote beauty of Haast Pass and surrounding wilderness. With snow-capped mountains, quiet valleys, and the profound stillness of Te Waipounamu, these acrylic paintings reflect the harmony between our native birds and their environment.

Each painting is a tribute to the mana of our native species, highlighting the delicate Huia in its natural habitat. This series celebrates the connection between humans, birds, and the landscape of Aotearoa, offering collectors a chance to bring a piece of South Island wilderness into their home.
